Protection of Stratospheric Ozone by using non-CFC (HFC-134a) refrigerant

Sharp endeavors to preserve the earth's environment and uses the non-CFC (HFC-134a) as refrigerant for all its refrigerator series. In 1997, Sharp was awarded the Stratospheric Ozone Protection Award from the United States Environmental Protection Agency for the contribution of its vacuum insulation technology in environmental preservation. All refrigerator models have already used CFC-free foaming agent, Pentane, for thermal insulation and a new refrigerant, HFC-134a for the compressor, which does not affect the ozone layer.

In addition, all dehumidifier series have also employed HFC-134a as the CFC-free foaming agent, which does not affect the ozone layer.

Participate the Energy Efficiency Labelling Scheme administered by HK Electrical & Mechanical Services Department

Sharp endeavors to participate the Energy Efficiency Labelling Scheme which was launched by Electrical & Mechanical Services Department since 1996. Among the five energy efficiency grades, Grade 1 is the most energy efficient according to the Hong Kong Energy Efficiency Labelling Scheme for Household Refrigeration Appliances. The grade 1 & 2 labels were awarded to Sharp refrigerators while grade 1 label was awarded to several Sharp window-type air-conditioner models, ensuring the most economical choice for consumers.

In addition to this, the "Recognition Type" Energy Label also has also been awarded to several models of Multifunction Copier among Sharp Office Automation products.

Using recycling materials that are energy-saving & resource-saving for AV products, especially in the product category of LCD TV

Energy-Saving and Ecological LCD TV
The power consumption of an LCD TV is less than 2/3 of that of a similar size CRT TV. This contributes to the reduction of CO2 emission when the electricity is generated and as a result helps to limit global warming. LCD TV is the trend for today and tomorrow and helps to reduce CO2 emission produced by the generation of electricity.

LCD TV Provides Long Use
The backlight life of LCD TV is approximately 60,000 hours under Standard Mode (unlike PDP, which has a 20,000 hour backlight life) and so lasts for 20 years when viewed in 8 hours per day. The usable life of LCD TV is longer than CRT TV and Plasma TV. Replacing the backlight brings back the same brightness and continues the life of LCD TV. Thus the ultra-long-term use of LCD panel is almost long-lasting and limitless.

Slim & Space-saving Design
The slim and light-weighted LCD TV enables versatile, flexible mounting as LCD TV takes up only about 1/8 the space of CRT TV of the same inch size.

Lead-free Solder
Sharp has replaced conventional solder with lead-free solder in LCD TV, which uses tin, silver and copper instead of lead. By using this technique, we may lower the possibility of causing acid rain, that ruins the soil and pollutes the water on the earth.
